September Adventures Learning...
Experiments in Science and Math in the Learning Garden!
We explored mixtures and solutions through two different investigations. The investigations focused on the properties of matter to help us determine if the mixture could be further classified as a solution. We reasoned that a mixture is a solution when one substance (solute) has dissolved into the other substance (solute.)

Recess Fun!
Tech Integration:
* Collaboration and sharing information about the Declaration
of Independence is easy using Padlet, online post-it notes.
* Online games like Kahoot and Quizizz is a quick, engaging way to apply
learning about fractions and decimals.
Students worked with Cuisenaire rods to develop number sense and determine equivalent fractions.
Math... Students build fraction sense engaging in online learning.
Brain Breaks...
The best exercise for the brain is exercise! Smiles and laughter are helpful, too!

2016-17 Class Family & Celebrations!
Discovery Center Field Trip
Students spent time in the auditorium learning about ecosystems and conservation. Then we went into a classroom and learned about animals and adaptations of animals on the prairie lands. In another exciting session, students had an up close view of a snake, and they were given the opportunity to hold a toad. On our hike we learned about the ecosystems of wetlands and forests. Students looked at wildlife and were given the opportunity to touch the hides of different mammals. They also touched some wings and a beaver tail. At the end of the hike, students played in an exploration area which had large rocks, stumps, branches, brush and more. We ate lunch in the atrium near the indoor water feature. At the end of the day after lunch, students created their Missouri projects in teams of 5-6 people. Students used resources such as a Missouri map and bird guides. We have some good artists in our group! :)
Geometric Mosaics with Quadrilaterals
Students cut quadrilaterals and placed them to create heart mosaics.
They noted the differences between squares, rectangles, trapezoids and parallelograms.
Fraction Fun with Sweetheart Treats!
Students sorted sweetheart treats by color. They wrote fractions for each color. Then they compared the fractions using math symbols such as >, <, and =.
Fraction fun!
Students categorize fractions by comparing them to benchmark fractions. Great work, third graders!! 👍🏼

Student share fun handshakes to make class connections during a brain break!
Students share their free writing during our Write Steps lesson.
The whole third grade ran for our school fundraiser. Sometimes they ran, other times they walked, but they kept going and gave it their best all the way! They kept going, and going, and going. "Leaders never quit. They roll with it!"

Mystery Skype... Super Heroes... and Our 7 Habits Assembly!
This week we had three Mystery Skypes. Students asked yes/no questions to determine the location of a class in another state! What fun!
On Friday we had Super Hero Day. Students dressed up like a Super Hero. One friend wore a t-shirt to honor our local heroes... POLICE!
We had a 7 Habits assembly on Friday to recognize those who "Seek First to Understand, Then to be Understood." Many students from our class were nominated by classmates. Two of our friends from our class had their name drawn, were recognized, and played "A Minute to Win It" with Mrs. Moots, playing a fabulous game of charades!
